Please call 1-800-LAW FIRM

Monday, August 30th, 2004

How funny – I just saw an ad on TV, which said that if you, or someone you knew, had attempted suicide after taking the drug [drug name], you should call 1-800-LAW FIRM.

Treasure hunt?

1/4 of a million in the streets

Sunday, August 29th, 2004

Every fours years the two political parties in the US have national conventions (separately of course), where they outline their political line, and, perhaps most importantly, nominate their presidential candidate. Earlier this summer the Democrats had their convention in Boston; the Republicans have their convention in NYC this week.

Today, more than a quarter of a million gathered to rally through New York to demonstrate. The vast majority of these were against Bush (the North East, New York in particular is traditionally Democratic), but there also was a small minority demonstrating pro-Bush. I did not get a “piece of the action” as some of the demonstrators felt they had to fight with the police. But thanks to tight security and a huge number of law enforcement officers in the streets, everything went rather smoothly. According to the TV channel C-SPAN, this was the largest demonstration in US history.

I got a picture from a cab, when the demonstration was near its end, see below.

Welcome to my NYC Diary and Updates

Thursday, August 26th, 2004

For my own sake, I will try to keep a diary of what is going on here, but also for the sake of my family, friends, and others who might be interested in what’s going on in New York City. Also, I will try to update on developments in politics, aspects of culture and much more. Sometimes a “blog post” can also just be a link of interest; but, still, somehow connected to NYC, the US or me and my stay here.

I arrived in New York City on August 25 , and I have been staying at the Millenium Hilton since then, right beside Ground Zero. On the attached picture is a view from my hotel room, where you can see Ground Zero.

There’s also a picture from the water, where you can see the remaining World Trade Center, and where the Twin Towers are missing – the slim glossy black building above the arch, which is above the ferry, is the Millenium Hilton. I’m on the 30th floor with three of my friends.

Take care until soon – I have a lot of fun pictures to post. Please comment on my posts, as this is also a way for us to communicate when I’m gone. This should, however, not refrain you from using normal email, or telephone.
